Union for escorts

I do not see why escorts should not have the same rights as other workers, and recognised as legitimate.

Douglas fox of Christony companions, an escort agency in Newcastle is keen to set up a union for escorts.

I wonder whether the union will assist escorts who are sacked when they are outed.

Have a good week.

The primary function of a union is to represent the untion members in discussions with the employer concerning working conditions and/or pay, up to and including, negotiationg a contract, isn't it? That might work well in the agency context, but I'm not sure how it would work with an independent lady -- who creates her own working conditions and decides on the donation she requests. Any representation or negotiation by a union would be at the level of the individual client?

I guess it might apply even within the context of independents if it were to somehow incorporate the idea of the "closed shop" -- that all ladies had to be members of the union, which might allow standardization of rates. That doesn't seem feasible in the US, since it's not legal here to begin with (with minor exceptions), but perhaps in the UK? Maybe they could pass a law that retained the legal status only for those ladies who were members of a recognized union.

Interesting concept. :-)

Hi Chevalier,

Thank you for your comments. Yes, I think the escorts who work for agencies, will benefit from this.
