Responsible Escort reviewing understand the consequences

I did my usual catch up on the message boards at the weekend. I came across a post that disturbed me, and raised a number of issues for me.

A client had left a review on an Escort agency website, indicating that he had slapped an escort. Fortunately, the review has been removed.

I have mixed feelings about reviews as I have pointed out here.

The post that I read at the weekend, demonstrates the harmful aspects of Escort reviews.

It is one thing, when a reviewer gives false information in reviews, and then an escort has difficulty convincing future clients that the information is false.

I think it is dangerous when a reviewer, indicates that he used force during a booking, and makes it clear that the escort protested, and stated that she would not see him again.

"She was not keen on X, but I blasted X ....., and made her cough and splutter."

These types of reviews can attract certain types of clients, and put some escorts lives in danger.

I catch up on the boards when I can, and do not read them daily. However, I think it is important to read the boards, for my own security, to identify clients I do not want to see. I understand that some clients will not disclose their handles, when they book an escort. However, there are some that do.

What I found reassuring from the post, was that there were a number of members who were outraged by that review. There are clients who will question the accuracy of these types of reviews, and there are also clients who will think it is okay to get the escort to do, what they have read. There are also a number of misogynists out there, who thrive on this sort of material.

I think that reviewers need to understand the consequences of what they write ,in escort reviews.

Sometimes, the Review boards, and Escort only boards, can help escorts avoid these types of clients. I feel it is irresponsible when Escort agencies, and Escort review boards publish these types of reviews.

In this case they were removed.

Do you think Reviewers have a responsibility?

Do you think that Review boards need to censor the types of reviews that are published?

Gillette has an interesting post on Boundaries,Choice and Responsibility.

Still thinking about this, but some preliminary confused (and long-winded) comments:

The biggest problem, of course, is using force to do something against her will, not the review itself. As far as mentioning that in a review, there are pluses and minuses. On the plus side, it may help other escorts avoid the guy. "Sometimes, the Review boards, and Escort only boards, can help escorts avoid these types of clients." You indicate that it's incomplete protection because "some clients will not disclose their handles, when they book an escort." True, which is why it's important for escorts to network and communicate among themselves. Every escort who works in that area and hears about the review should be contacting the lady who was reviewed to get that guy's real-life information and watch out for him during screening. If the review weren't posted . . . would this have come to your attention so you could safeguard yourself? Maybe, but if not, the review helped.

Also, the responses to the review hopefully will educate other readers. I may be naive, but I hope that some guys who might also be so inclined will get a wake-up call when they see the responses and rethink their attitude. OK, a long shot.

As far as minuses. Not sure, but I suspect that if guys are not already pre-disposed toward using force to get what they want from escorts . . . reading such a review won't make them more likely to do so. But I could be wrong.

So the real minus may be that the review will give the bad guys a specific target. "Hey, she's vulnerable and X got away with it, so I'll go see the same lady." Does that really happen? Dunno.

I'm uncomfortable with censorship, but at the end of the day, it's the escorts' safety, not mine. If there really is a risk, from your perception, of negative consequences . . . and you have other means of finding out about such bad clients . . . maybe the reviews should be removed and/or edited.

Chevalier

P.S. A minor variant on what you're talking about, regarding negative consequences of reviews. I've never forced anything on an escort . . . but I have on occasion experienced things the escort may not offer to all of her clients. If I mention those in a review, others who read the review will expect, and may pressure her to get, the same. So, a responsible reviewer may want to omit those from the review as well.

But I'll avoid the minefield of talking about the perspective that "reviews shouldn't mention any details at all, other than that she's legit and you had a good time." :-)

>>"These types of reviews can attract certain types of clients, and put some escorts lives in danger."

Escorting itself puts escort's lives in danger, don't you think? I don't think a lack of these kinds of reviews puts you into safer territory.

>>"I understand that some clients will not disclose their handles, when they book an escort. However, there are some that do."

You can have an impact on this. "let me know your handle before our meeting and get a $ discount" (...give him 10 lbs off or something)

Chevalier,

Thank you for your comments. Everything you have said, sounds clear to me :)

Bragging about using force is outrageous!

If the review were not posted, I would not have known. The review was on an Escort agency site. I have no reason to read those reviews.

Sadly, this guy will change his identity, as he will have difficulty seeing other escorts if he keeps the same details.

I hope the responses to the review, will educate other readers too. We live in hope!

I think the review will give the bad guys a specific target. I have read posts where Independents, and Escort agency owners, confirm this.So yes, it does happen.

In this case, the reviews were removed, and I think this was the best thing to do.

If an escort provides X to select clients, the clients should not mention this in their reviews.

I have friends who have experience of this, and they have a hard time, convincing other clients that they do not do X.

I am aware that in this case, the reviewers cannot help themselves. They need to let everyone else know they received something, that noone else has access to.

It is complex. I do not operate in this way, as I want a simple life.

GGL,

Thank you for your comments. Escorting is a risky business. I believe these types of reviews encourage this behaviour.

I doubt offering an incentive to clients, to disclose their handles will make a difference.

Anonymity is essential, to most men.

I do not know what the rules are, in the US. On some boards in the UK, you can have multiple handles. A handle for the messageboard, a different handle for the chatroom, and another handle for reviews.

I doubt things will change.

It is interesting that more of your commenters come from the other side of the pond than your own back yard.

The biggest area of vulnerability for escorts lies in the anonymity of clients. Men who are going to commit crimes against prostitutes will tend to want to conceal their identities, and probably will not often telegraph their future intentions by posting reviews of women they have harmed in the past.

It seems to me that reviews in which men admit to criminal behavior ought to be posted as a warning to women.

There is a simple equation in operation here. The more intensive the screening process, and the higher the appearance fee, the less clients an escort will see. But the less intensive the screening process, and the lower the fee, the greater the risk of running into antisocial behavior that may put the escort at risk. It has been that way since Jack the Ripper was about his business.

"I am aware that in this case, the reviewers cannot help themselves. They need to let everyone else know they received something, that noone else has access to."

Alas, there are indeed many guys like this, who don't understand that the purpose of a review is NOT to inflate their own ego. :-(

Some guys, though, just don't realize. Unless you are familiar with her reviews and realize "no one else has mentioned X," and if she doesn't say anything, you may not realize that X is not routinely offered to clients.

One just lives in hope that the writers of these field reports make themselves and their 'handles' known when attempting to book other ladies, thus giving them the option of refusal.

When I have seen clients who have been forceful to the point of making me gag or made my eyes water, or just made me darned uncomfortable, I have used the medium of ladies warning boards to inform others.

Of course we always have the other option of bringing the booking to an early finish and therefore indicating to said client that his behaviour is unacceptable, but usually one just puts up with it and watches the clock knowing there will not be a repeat performance.

James B,

Thank you for your comments.

The majority of my commenters are from the other side of the pond.

However, most of my readers, are from this side of the pond, but they do not comment.

I agree with all your points on pricing, and screening. I am not sure how we can get round the anonymity, and vulnerability issues though.

Chevalier,

Yes, some guys do not see the bigger picture.

Blueslady,

Thank you for your comments. We live in hope, my dear.

I tend not to have much faith in some warning boards these days, that have security loopholes.

It's interesting Nia that most of your viewers are from the UK but do not comment.

I wonder why that is?

On the violence and reviews issue - the kind of behaviour you have described is despicable and made even worse by the author's desire to brag about it.

There have been attempts at providing messageboards for escorts and parlours to share information about dangerous men. It is sad that none of these seem to be fully successful - sometimes because perhaps rivalries between ecorts has got in the way of mutual support.

I am sure escort friends share information on dodgy clients - but on this issue I would have imagined all escorts need to be friends and find efficient ways of informing each other of potentially dangerous clients.

There's no justification in pressuring the service provider. none. at all.

Beau,

Thank you for your comments.

You are one of four UK commenters on this board, that I know of :).

I do not know why that is. Could it have something to do with British culture?

As I have mentioned before, comments on blogs are few and far between.

Yes, rivalries and nastiness have led to security loopholes on escort only boards.

Anonymous,

Thank you for your comments. I think the men who pressure service providers, have major issues.

... Could it have something to do with British culture?

As you know Nia, we Brits are all so shy and reserved ...
